Tobey McGuire Says 'SpiderMan 2' Better Than First
July 15, 2003 Source: BBC News

Tobey McGuire has told BBC News that he thinks the forthcoming sequel Spiderman 2 is even better than the original. "I'm really happy with it." Maguire said, "It's going to be better than the first one. The story is a lot better."

The sequel will see Maguire's character, Peter Parker, enrolling as a university student. But two new villains, Dr Octopus and the Lizard, are bent on his destruction.

Rumors had been earlier this year that Maguire had been dropped by the studio due to the injuries he sustained while filming Seabiscuit.

Maguire said that it was not true that he had been fired and that the back problem he suffered from was not due to filming 'Seabiscuit', but an ongoing ailment he has been suffering.

He also said that he questioned himself over whether he was fit enough to take on the strenuous role in the sequel.

Jailing him at the Old Bailey, Judge Christopher Moss QC said: "You are, in my judgment, and will remain certainly for the foreseeable future, a grave danger to young women."

Spiderman thief gets seven years

July 5, 2003

A THIEF behind a string of Spiderman-style burglaries at apartments on Queensland's Gold Coast was jailed for seven years today.

But Joseph Paul Bygrave, who pleaded guilty in Brisbane's District Court to 92 offences after pocketing more than $140,000 in jewellery and money in six months, could be set free next year.

Judge Brian Hoath ordered Bygrave, whose crime spree included car chases, which reached speeds of 165 kph and forced vehicles off the highway, be eligible for release in two years.

The 24-year-old has already spent almost a year in jail awaiting his sentencing.

Crown prosecutor Sarah Farnden told the court Bygrave broke into apartments via the balconies on the state's famous holiday strip.
